Every time you go through the same steps to create an outcome, you’re creating a process—whether it’s to generate a report, resolve a customer complaint, contact a new client, or manufacture a product.
Ineffective or inefficient processes cause a number of issues and problems. Unhappy or dissatisfied customers, missed deadlines, increased costs, and overall organizational stress are just some of the results of dysfunctional processes.
Start by documenting your current processes in a systems hand-book or standard operating procedures handbook. This is known as mapping a process.
